3 Common Signs of Major Engine Trouble
There is nothing quite like the roar of a finely tuned engine. The rumble just makes people want to hit the gas and cruise the open road. But if your engine is struggling due to poor maintenance habits or general wear and tear from high mileage there is a better chance you'll be headed for the auto repair shop rather than, well, anywhere else. While some engine problems can only be repaired by rebuilding or replacing the entire engine, other issues may just need a gasket replaced or another minor repair, as long as the problem is detected early enough. If you experience any of these common signs of engine failure be sure to head to the shop right away to avoid a break down.
For many people the first sign of trouble that they experience in regard to engine failure is a loud knocking noise coming from under the hood of their vehicle as they drive down the street. This noise will increase in speed in sync with the RPMs. If you encounter this noise to take it as some sort of knock, knock joke, this is a sign of a serious problem. The noise is being created by worn out engine bearings, which are what all the moving parts of the engine rest on. To fix this issue there is a good chance that the bottom half of the engine will need to be rebuilt.
Excessive Exhaust Smoke
Another common sign of trouble in the engine is excessive exhaust coming out of the tailpipe. Based on the color of the smoke the problem with the engine can often be determined. Blue smoke indicates that oil is being burnt up, meaning the engine will eventually starve for oil and face lubrication issues. Black smoke means that excessive amounts of gasoline is being ignited and white smoke indicates a cooling system leak inside the engine that is allowing antifreeze to be burned with the gasoline. Each of these issues can lead to major engine problems such as burnt valves, blown head gaskets or worse.
Lack of Power
You may not experience any visible or audible issues, rather a general lack of power is a telltale sign that something is amiss in the engine. If your car or truck struggles to accelerate, can't get up to freeway speed or has other power issues be sure to get to the auto repair shop to have the problem addressed.
It is important to take good care of your engine, providing it with the maintenance it needs and deserves, which includes oil changes and 30/60/90K services. Without these services the engine will suffer and quickly fail. If you believe you need engine repair in Everett bring your vehicle to O.N.B. Automotive on Grand Avenue.
