Simple Auto Maintenance to Prepare Your Vehicle for Winter

Simple Auto Maintenance to Prepare Your Vehicle for WinterAs winter approaches you should take the time to prepare your car or truck to ensure that it can handle the cold weather and slippery streets. These tips for winterizing your vehicle will not only instill comfort, but ensure safer travels throughout the season. Completing these tasks will also help ensure a more reliable vehicle, all year long!

Be sure to correct current problems before they get worse. Cold and damp weather has a tendency to make issues worse.

Ensure your up to date with scheduled maintenance. You can find your service schedule in your vehicle owner's manual.

Check all your exterior lights, including headlights, turn signals, driving lights, brake lights, reverse lights and others for optimal safety and legality. Remember, the days get shorter in the winter!

Check your tires to be sure they can handle snow and other weather. Look for cracked or bubbling rubber and be sure there is an ample amount of tread left.

Worn wiper blades can be worse than no wiper blades as they may just smear water. Be sure your wipers are in good condition.

Check your battery to ensure that there is no corrosion and that the fluid levels are right. The cold can take a toll on batteries, so be sure it is properly connected.

To improve vehicle performance be sure to replace filters such as the fuel filter, air filter and oil filter.

Do you need brake service? Make sure your car is able to stop safely.

Make sure you test the heater and defrost to ensure a safe and comfortable ride during the winter season.

Following these tips will get your car prepared for the wet, windy and possibly snowy winter ahead here in the PNW.
