The Importance of the Oil Change
Most forms of auto maintenance are only necessary every 30,000 miles or more, depending on your make and model. Yet, the oil change is a critical component of automotive health that needs to be done every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for most cars and trucks. Is it necessary to change the oil so often? Yes! If you decided to stop changing the oil in your car, or even delay doing so for a thousand miles or more over it's limit, your car's engine could suffer big time. Here are four reasons to always change the oil on time.
Lower engine operating temperature
One of the integral reasons to change the oil is to help keep the engine operating temperature down. Fresh oil lowers the amount of heat produced through friction, as well as absorbs existing heat. While the cooling system is primarily responsible for keeping things chill, coolant doesn't reach the same areas as oil.
Remove engine sludge
As oil circulates through the engine it bigs up contaminants such as dirt or tiny metal shavings. When the oil passes through the oil filter it deposits this debris. During an oil change all this gunk that is inside your motor is removed, helping to provide it with fresh operating conditions that improves performance.
Improve fuel economy
Speaking of improved performance, one of the big advantages of the oil change is that it improves oil change. Getting all the engine sludge out of the motor frees up the parts to work as designed. Without an oil change this gunk causes the the motor to have to work harder to create the same amount of power, which means that it will be consuming gasoline at a higher rate than normal.
Maintains lubrication & extends engine life
The most important reason to always change the oil on time is to ensure that the moving parts of the engine are properly lubricated. Oil reduces the friction between these parts, and if you don't change the oil, the old oil will be unable to provide the protection necessary to prevent massive wear and tear. Changing the oil is the best way to extend the life of your car, truck or SUV.
