What auto maintenance tasks should be done for spring?

Temperatures are finally warming up and in Western Washington it'll soon be time to take long drives to the mountains or coast. Before hopping on the highway, you'll want to make sure your vehicle is fully prepared to perform safely and reliably. Here are six important types of springtime auto maintenance.

Test Battery

During the cold winter months, frigid weather may have greatly strained your battery. This makes it important to get your battery tested so that you can be confident that it won't leave you stranded.

Check Tire Pressure

Big shifts in temperatures between winter and spring can cause tire pressure to fluctuate. Safe tire pressure is typically somewhere between 30 and 35 psi, though it's worth checking to see what precisely is recommended for your set of ties.

New Wiper Blades

Especially in the Pacific Northwest, regular wintertime precipitation can cause wiper blades to degrade as they endure heavy usage. Getting your wiper blades replaced is cheap and easy and will help to ensure a clear field of vision when the rain starts falling.

Brake Service

By replacing brake pads every 50,000 miles, you can reduce the risk of major brake problems arising. When you get brake service, pads will be replaced if necessary and all relevant braking system components will be properly lubricated. If any significant brake problems are discovered, they'll be explained to you and you'll be provided with an estimate.

AC Recharge

Before temperatures really start cooking, you'll want to be sure that your AC is able to keep you and your passengers cool. If your AC is failing to blow cold air, a recharge can return it to its cooling ways.

Check/Change Oil

Prior to heading out on an extended trek, you'll want to check if your car is due for an oil change. By keeping up with oil changes, your engine's moving parts are much more likely to stay fully lubricated and protected from damage that could be caused by metal-on-metal contact.
